For the past few years, Jeeves Law Group and More Health have teamed up to help expand the safety educational outreach to schools in the Tampa Bay Area through the Trauma Is No Accident lesson.

Since 1989, MORE HEALTH, Inc. has been working to improve the health and safety of children, teens, and adults through interactive lessons. MORE HEALTH has taught over 3.2 million students in schools throughout the Tampa Bay area, one lesson, and one classroom at a time.

Trauma Is No Accident lesson is presented to high school students in Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties during the school year. Approximately 1,660 high school students in 83 classrooms will receive education on making safe decisions while driving. Students will recognize how the choices they make will impact their safety and the safety of their passengers.

According to the most recent data from the Florida Crash Statistics Report, published each year by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there was a 10.9% increase in teen driver accidents in Florida when compared to the previous year. For Tampa Bay in particular (Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties), the increase in teen driver accidents was at 6.2%. However, each county in Tampa Bay saw an increase. The Tampa Bay area continues to place in the top metropolitan areas across the US for teen fatalities due to vehicle crashes. MORE HEALTH’s mission to improve the health of children, teens, and adults through education has the ability to make a large impact in this area. The highly interactive “Trauma is No Accident” Lesson was developed and implemented by MORE HEALTH as an innovative way to engage high school students. Students learn that speeding, drinking and driving, and distractions such as cell phones, music, food, and friends can lead to deadly accidents. Factual stories and simulations emphasize the importance of wearing a seatbelt and not drinking and driving. Students gain an understanding of brain and spinal cord injuries and the process of rehabilitation.
